Spirit of Tlatelolco

History and Purpose

Founded in 1970 by Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales, Escuela Tlatelolco Centro de Estudios provides an alternative choice in education for Chicano/Mexicano and Indigenous students. For thirty-three years, the Escuela has successfully served the interests and needs of the Latino community in an environment that inspires the excellence of scholastic achievement.

Responding as we have, to the ‘needs of the day’ we envision a growth and expansion of opportunities for all the various communities of our people, and we deem this to be possible through the accessibility of a quality education that stimulates our students to realize their full potential. Operating on a year-round schedule, with an average attendance of 130 students from predominately low-income families, we are cognizant of the benefit of our services, and we are committed to seek viable solutions to the challenge of continuing to provide a quality education program designed to meet the educational needs of our community.

Over the years, we have served as a beacon of hope for our students and families. Established as a non-profit institution, we have utilized funds through government institutions and foundations, as well as those resources available through corporations and businesses in the Denver community. With the support obtained from these resources, we have a well-developed scholarship program, which assists with tuition for qualifying students. Proceeds from each annual SPIRIT OF TLATELOLCO benefit event are applied to this fund.

We invite you to participate with us as a SPONSOR of this year's SPIRIT OF TLATELOLCO Celebration. As a benefactor, your willingness to provide tuition assistance for our students through our Scholarship Assistance Program affects the future prosperity of our people, our families, and the Denver community.  If you wish to make a contribution to our scholarship program, and choose not to attend the SPIRIT OF TLATELOLCO event, we will make the necessary arrangements for your donation and method of payment. Your sponsorship donation will still be noted during the event.
